Equipment You Will Need

- Brooder Boxes
A brooder box is your chicks' entire world for the first critical weeks of their life, acting as an artificial mother hen that provides warmth, safety, and security. The brooder boxes we offer are specifically designed to create the perfect environment for your new Brahmas to thrive. Made from durable, non-porous materials, they are incredibly easy to clean and sanitise between batches, which is the number one step in preventing the spread of disease. Unlike a simple cardboard box which can get damp and harbour bacteria, our brooders are built to last and provide a hygienic space.
The solid walls are designed to be completely draft-proof, protecting your vulnerable chicks from chills that can be fatal in their first few days. They are also sized generously, providing ample space for your chicks to move around, eat, and drink without being overcrowded. This space allows them to self-regulate their temperature by moving closer to or further away from the heat source as needed. The walls are also high enough to prevent ambitious chicks from jumping out as they begin to grow and test their wings, ensuring they remain safe and secure inside. Investing in a purpose-built brooder box is investing in the health and well-being of your flock from day one, giving them the safe, clean, and warm start they need.
- Heat Lamps
Providing a consistent and reliable source of heat is the single most important job in raising healthy chicks, and a quality heat lamp is the cornerstone of any good brooder setup. The heat lamps we sell are chosen with safety as the absolute top priority. They feature robust, heavy-duty clamps that secure firmly to the side of the brooder, minimising the risk of the lamp falling, which can be a devastating fire hazard. Each lamp is equipped with a protective wire guard around the bulb to prevent the hot surface from coming into direct contact with flammable bedding or the chicks themselves.
We recommend and stock 250-watt infrared heat bulbs, particularly the red-tinted variety. The red light is less harsh than bright white light, which allows the chicks to establish a more natural day/night cycle and has been shown to reduce the likelihood of stress-related feather pecking among the chicks. The ceramic fitting is crucial, as it is designed to withstand the high temperatures generated by the bulb far better than a standard plastic fitting, preventing melting and drastically reducing fire risk. Using a household lamp is a dangerous gamble; our purpose-built heat lamps provide the safe, consistent, and life-sustaining warmth your chicks depend on to grow strong and healthy.
- Feeders
During their first eight weeks, chicks will eat an incredible amount of food as they grow at an explosive rate. Using the right kind of feeder is essential not only for their health but also for your wallet. The chick feeders we provide are specifically designed to solve the two biggest problems with feeding chicks: waste and contamination. Our feeders feature multiple small feeding holes or a narrow trough that allows easy access for the chicks while making it very difficult for them to scratch and flick the feed out onto the bedding. Wasted feed is wasted money, and our designs ensure that the expensive, nutrient-rich chick starter actually goes to your growing flock.
Even more importantly, these designs help keep the feed clean. Chicks are not tidy, and an open dish of feed will quickly become filled with droppings and soiled bedding. Contaminated feed is a primary way that diseases like Coccidiosis are spread. Our feeders protect the feed supply, ensuring your chicks are eating fresh, clean food, which is fundamental to good health and strong growth. They are made from durable, easy-to-clean plastic, allowing you to quickly wash and sanitise them. Investing in a proper feeder is a simple but highly effective way to promote flock health and reduce your overall feed costs.
- Water Containers
Clean, fresh water is absolutely vital for the health of a growing chick, but providing it safely can be tricky. A simple dish of water is one of the most dangerous things you can put in a brooder. Chicks can easily fall into it, and if they become soaked and chilled, they can die in minutes. They will also constantly foul it with droppings and bedding, turning it into a soup of harmful bacteria. The chick water containers we offer are designed to eliminate these risks entirely. They feature a vacuum-sealed gravity design with a very shallow, narrow drinking trough around the base.
This design is brilliant for several reasons. First, the trough is too shallow for a chick to fall into and drown, making it the safest possible way to provide water. Second, the main water reservoir remains sealed and clean, protecting it from contamination. Only a small amount of water is exposed in the trough at any one time, which is easy for you to wipe clean daily. These waterers make it simple to see how much your chicks are drinking and ensure they have a constant supply of fresh water, which is essential for proper digestion, temperature regulation, and overall health. They are easy to disassemble, clean, and refill, making your daily chores simpler and your chicks much safer.
